Today is 25 December. Christian community around the world (except those from Orthodox Christian church) celebrate Christmas as remembrance of their great spiritual teacher, Jesus.
Since Christianity has flourished in Europe continent as well as in American continent later, therefore winter-themed decoration accompanying with elf, reindeers and Santa Claus can be found easily in any public sites. Thanks to globalisation, every person know that Christmas festival is around the corner when Santa Claus and related decoration icon are at the place.
In fact, the fictional festival figure of Santa Claus is actually inspired from a monk who lived in modern-day Turkey. He was St. Nicholas who famous for his piety, generosity and kindness toward the needed people. The reputation of St. Nicholas is widely venerated in Europe, and eventually being introduced to American popular culture after 1770s. Since 19th century, new name of 'Santa Claus' derived from Dutch language was also introduced. Later, the fictional story and characteristics surrounding the Santa Claus was popularised and further circulated after Clement Moore and Thomas Nast published his poem and cartoon respectively.
